Insight into Depression Summary

Insight into Depression by Wendy Bray

Based on the Waverley Abbey Insight Day on Depression led by Chris Ledger, this book will help both those working with others through issues relating to depression, and those who are themselves sufferers. Drawing on Chriss many years of experience counselling those suffering from depression and having seen the torment and despair that it brings, the book aims to help us understand depression better by reflecting on individual experience, psychological research and professional practice. It includes personal insight and practical activities for both the sufferer and the helper, and offers a holistic and God-centred approach to understanding and moving beyond depression. Each chapter ends with a reflection, activity and prayer to assist on this journey of understanding and learning.

About Wendy Bray

Wendy Bray's first book In the Palm of God's Hand (with BRF) won the biography prize at The Christian Book Awards in 2002. Since then she has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books, and written countless features and Bible-reading notes. Wendy is associate priest at All Saints, Clifton in Bristol and is married with two adult children. She is living with stage IV breast cancer and, having a special interest in the way suffering and liturgy relate to one another, is currently researching in this area. Chris Ledger worked as a counsellor, supervisor and trainer in the NHS, and now has a private practice. She enjoys speaking at Christian meetings and is a regular tutor on CWRs Insight days, also co-authoring several books in the Insight series. At Greyfriars Church, Reading, she is a licensed lay minister, and in her spare time enjoys having fun with her five grandchildren.
