Summary

A fascinating and nostalgic look at the history and development of the privately built British 250cc `specials' and `hybrids' that were the mainstay of the 250cc class of road racing in Britain between 1946 and 1959.

British 250cc racing Motorcycles 1946-1959 Summary

British 250cc racing Motorcycles 1946-1959: an era of ingenious innovation by Chris Pereira

From 1946 up to 1959, the 250cc class in Britain was supported almost entirely by privately built Specials and Hybrids. This book recalls the men and machines involved, and traces their history and development, in what was clearly the most technically innovative class of Road Racing in the 1950s.

British 250cc racing Motorcycles 1946-1959 Reviews

author Chris Pereira is to be congratulated on his well researched choice of subject now reprinted due to popular demand in the Veloce Classic Reprint Series - one of great historical importance that has, until now, been completely ignored, resulting in a permanent record of the fascinating and amazingly competitive machines they built against the odds. Highly recommended. - Jonathan Hill - freelance

About Chris Pereira

Born in Sri Lanka, Chris Pereira developed a passionate interest in motor cycle racing while still a young schoolboy. On emigrating to England in the early 1950s, he went to work for racing dealer Arthur Taylor of Shipston-on-Stour. This provided the opportunity to attend race meetings in the `Fifties', and brought him into contact with many well know riders. He finally achieved his greatest ambition by riding in the Classic Manx GP in 1984, and was a regular competitor in Vintage and Classic racing events until 2002. He has written articles on racing history in several classic motorcycle magazines, and in 2018 has released a new book - Motorcycle Racing with the Continental Circus.
