Walk! Lanzarote Summary

Walk! Lanzarote by David Brawn

Our new 2nd edition of Walk! Lanzarote builds on the reputation of our 1st edition with more walks and comprehensive updating so that it caters for the needs of the increasing number of people who would like to combine some walking with a holiday on the 'Fire' island. Our 2009 research included walking every day, confirming and updating routes from the 1st edition and finding new routes to be included in the 2nd edition. Walk! Lanzarote explodes the myth that there is nowhere worth walking on the island as we range through strolling on coastal promenades, walking across 'alpine' style meadows (yes, really), striding over the lava sea, dropping into volcanoes, sitting on 'high mountain seats' - quite simply you will be amazed at the wide variety of stunning landscapes the 'Fire' island has to offer the adventurous leisure walker. Lanzarote is all good news for walkers. Coastal routes have been completed or improved, none more than our Coastal Discovery from Puerto del Carmen. Our new routes include extending our Pena del Rubicon route across the coastal desert to overlook Las Salinas and on to La Hoya bus stop from where we can bus back to Playa Blanca. Completely new are Barranco Malpaso from Haria, Caldera Blanca, and Montana Corona; all of them must do routes for Lanzarote afficionados and new visitors alike. Walk! Lanzarote is produced to our highest standards with walk summary and rating, fully detailed description, frequent timings so you can check your progress, compass directions, and gps waypoints for all country routes. Each country route has full 1:40,000 scale colour mapping and gps waypoints dedicated to that route, while our Teguise town walk uses a large scale street plan. All routes are illustrated with colour photos. Culture and agriculture are included along with a 'Thingy' section on modern art, including new 'Thingys' discovered during our research plus a well known artist producing works in the 'Thingy' mould! We've taken advice and have substantially increased the 'Access by Bus' sections for each walk and include extensive bus information. Quite simply the best book of Lanzarote that you can buy - that's what we said of the 1st edition, but now the best book just got a whole lot better.

Walk! Lanzarote Reviews

Lanzrote Gazette Sept 2009 Walkers' Bible Tourists and residents who fancy getting off the beaten track and exploring Lanzarote's more hidden secrets are well catered to with David and Ros Brawn's new edition of their already classic Walk! Lanzarote guidebook. Lanzarote is a small island, but even long-time residents can still find beautiful corners they've never come across before. With the summer sun starting to ease off, it's the ideal time to explore the island further, and the new edition of Walk! Lanzarote should be a vital aid to anyone who wants to make the most of this varied and wonderful place. With 35 walks of varying difficulty, and taking in the island from the verdant north to the spectacular volcanoes of the south, the book is full of great ideas, and now features new maps allowing you to follow the walks more easily, GPS co-ordinates are included for techno-savvy ramblers, and the whole book is characterised by the authors' breezy and conversational style. A good example of this are the pages devoted to 'thingies', otherwise known as the public works of sculpture that can be seen all over the island. Cesar Manrique's wind toys are the classic 'thingies', but other examples of public art are included, and some of the less attractive ones get short shrift indeed! There are also brief and informative articles about Lanzarote's history, agriculture and nature which are designed to help walkers understand what is around them without feeling they're being lectured on a school outing. Lanzarote's bus service is covered in depth for walkers who don't have cars, and pretty much anything else a rambler on the island might need to know is included as well. The Walk! Lanzarote guide is issued alongside a new edition of the Lanzarote Tour & Trail map - a 1:40,000 scale chart printed on super-durable paper that is also a godsend to those who wish to explore the island. http://www.gazettelanzarote.com/ page 18 September 2009 edition
