Tatted Lace Accessories Summary

Tatted Lace Accessories by Donatella Ciotti

In her latest book, Donatella Ciotti teaches the reader how to make tatted lace, also known as frivolite - a durable yet delicate form of lace constructed using a series of knots and loops. Although it has been a traditional craft for centuries, Donatella's step-by-step instructions focus on more modern needle techniques, making the craft accessible to a contemporary audience.

In recent years, tatted lace has come back into fashion and is now popular in high fashion design. The craft is relatively simple and easy to master following a few simple instructions. Different materials can be used, from very fine thread to cord, along with beads of different types and sizes.

This book includes 22 gorgeous designs to make including bracelets, earrings, necklaces and brooches, illustrated and explained with diagrams and step-by-step photography to help you make the items exactly as shown, or use them as inspiration for your own designs. There are ideas for special occasions, such as weddings or christenings as well as table decorations, purses, mobile phone holders and much more.

Tatted Lace Accessories Reviews

Complement every item in your wardrobe with this set of delicate lacy tatted jewelry projects. Make necklaces, bracelets, earrings, a purse, cell phone pouch, wedding favors and Christmas sachets using just thread, a needle and sometimes a few beads.

The projects in this book are truly beautiful and have a timeless look that is equal parts vintage and modern which is sure to have a wide appeal. Matching the pieces with contemporary favorites such as shamballa beads and iron-on gemstones is a good touch, as are some of the funky colored pieces. First however you need to learn to tat, and unusually this is done here using a long needle instead of the more usual shuttle. The author states that this is a more modern way of doing it and it is easier to unpick so no shuttles are used in this book, only needles. If you can already tat and want to learn the needle technique the instructions are probably adequate, but if you are a person who has never done tatting before this is not an ideal place to learn it. A few pages are given with tiny photographs but mostly this is a book of patterns for intermediate tatters and if this is you then you will find that the project instructions just fine. Each comes with staged photographs and diagrams plus some beautiful photography showing what can be done with what amounts to hardly any materials. A must have for all tatters who are beyond the basics and want to make some truly stunning jewelry.

This book has just made my world more amazing. I have tried to learn tatting numerous times.
Sometimes I can do the flick and my stitches work and other times they don't. This is where the book has changed everything. You don't have to use a shuttle you can use a needle! This means no worrying about flicking and I can start tatting!!!! The start of the book takes through all the tools and materials you can use to start tatting. The next section of the book shows you how to create each of the stitches. These instructions are made using a needle instead of the shuttle. There are clear instructions and clear photo's for you to follow. I love the fact that it even explains how
you can unpick your work if you need to and what to do when the thread breaks. Most books don't explain what do to when things go wrong so it's a fantastic surprise to find them in this book. Then you move into the projects sections. You will be glad to find out that instructions and photo's are included to help you with making the project. Once you are used to the basics the projects then move onto using things like beads to make your designs even more special. When Donatella moves onto using Swarovski crystals the jewellery takes on an amazing look that you would think had been bought from a very expensive shop. The projects aren't only jewellery they also include items such as purses & mobile phone pouch. If you have never tatted or you want to expand your skills I would highly recommend this book.
