In this novel the marriage of Harvey Rolfe and Alma Frothingham is poisoned by sexual jealousy, selfish ambition and deceit. Harvey and Alma are caught up in the social whirlpool of London, as their initial desire for the simple life is drowned in the bustle and chaos of city life.
