Occupational Therapy with Children Summary

Occupational Therapy with Children by Helen Clancy

The object of this book is to present theories and principles underlaying the practice of occupational therapy with children. The book is designed for use by undergraduate students and therapists who are new to this specialist area. However, other health professionals and parents may also find that there is much to interest them. It's central tenet is that the family - however it is culturally defined - is the appropriate unit of therapeutic intervention with children. The authors have attempted to convey their belief that productive therapy is most likely to result when specialists respect the child and family members as partners in the process - hence that choice of the title "Occupational Therapy with Children". The authors assumed that the reader will already have some preparation in the basic sciences such as anatomy and neuroanatomy. However, they have not assumed any preparation in the specialist field of occupational therapy with children.
