The Glenn Miller Conspiracy Summary

The Glenn Miller Conspiracy: The Shocking True Story of How He Died and Why by Hunton Downs

Glenn Miller was one of the most successful and enduring names of the Big Band era, with many popular tunes such as 'In the Mood', 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' and 'Little Brown Jug'. In 1944, while travelling to entertain US troops in France, he disappeared. The story has always been that his plane crashed and his body was never found. In this new expose, Hunton Downs reveals that Glenn Miller was never in that plane and the reason why his body was never found was because he was killed in wartime Paris by the Nazis. Miller could speak German and was hugely popular amongst German troops - almost as much so as amongst US troops. So, what took him to Paris? Why have the US never revealed the contents of his war records? What did they have to hide that resulted in a cover up that has lasted for so many years? The Glenn Miller Conspiracy pieces together, bit by bit, the amazing story of Glenn Miller's work for the US in the Psychological Warfare Division and his subsequent role as secret envoy for Eisenhhower. Downs has extensively studied de-classified information, mostly German, to discover a cover-up that is as fascinating as Miller's own life. Hunton Downs is a former US Lieutenant Colonel who, as a post-war journalist received the Edward R Murrow citation for his Cold War coverage and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on Vietnam. He has written four other books.
