Borrowed Light Summary

Borrowed Light by Joolz Denby

Joolz Denby's fourth novel is a dark tale of dangerous infatuation, set against the idyllic backdrop of the Cornish surfing village of Polwenna. Astra Sharp has dropped out of college to look after her MS-stricken mum. She has a part time job in the caf? run by her best friend Connie, and a boyfriend who plays in a band. Life's not perfect, but it's not too bad ? and if golden surfer boy Luke just noticed she existed, then maybe it would be perfect after all. Then Connie's little sister Angel shows up and everything starts to go to hell. It's not Angel's fault. After all who could blame her for being beautiful? It isn't Angel's fault if everyone falls in love with her ? gorgeous Luke, boring Tim the accountant, Astra's kid sister Gita. But as Angel's stay lengthens into weeks everything in Polwenna curdles ? the weather turns grey and flat and there's madness in the wind. Nothing short of a storm will clear the air, but when the storm comes it brings an act of terrible violence in its wake.

Borrowed Light Reviews

?A most impressive piece of work... This author just gets better and better and this may be her best work yet. She has an enviable ability to portray real people and real places with verve, poetry and passion. Joolz Denby is in the forefront of real writers today? Joanne Harris ?Haunting and lyrical? Daily Express ?[Denby?s] writing shifts tone between levity and lyricism as naturally as light glancing off the sea. Artless-seeming yet sophisticated, it is a superior coming of age story?
