United Kingdom Copyright Law Summary

United Kingdom Copyright Law by Joynson Hicks

Lawyers in private practice and in industry, publishers and others who work in businesses affected by or based on copyright exploitation need to be aware of the changes introduced by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. "Joynson-Hicks on Copyright" is a practical and succinct guide to this highly complex legislation. Each chapter starts with a summary of the law and a list of the important changes brought about by the 1988 Act, followed by a detailed examination of the rules. Where existing law has been preserved summaries are provided of the way that law has been interpreted by the Courts and the remedies which are available when rights have been infringed. Works in copyright include those made under the 1911 or 1956 Acts whilst some pre-1911 works still remain in copyright. The rules governing copyright for these works are contained in complex transitional provisions. Each chapter clearly distinguishes between the works to which the different rules apply.
