This book features exquisite full-page pictures of 200 butterflies from around the world, accompanied by text that is informative and engaging, including essays on butterfly migration, butterflies and the environment, gardening and watching and collecting butterflies.

The selection of butterflies is arranged by location, from the Arctic Circle to rain forests, woodlands, grasslands and deserts. Species in the book include butterflies from India, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ireland, Russia, New Guinea, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and many North American favourites.

The richly illustrated introduction briefly describes the history of our fascination with butterflies and provides general scientific information such as the parts of a butterfly, how they grow and feed, and how to observe them.

About Kjell B. Sandved

Kjell Sandved is the king of butterfly photography and a longtime associate of the Smithsonian Institution. He is a natural history photographer, whose phootographs have appeared in National Geographic. The foreword is written by Robert Michael Pyle, an acclaimed nature writer.

Brian Cassie the author of the books text, he is on the board of directors of the North American Butterfly Association.
