Most previous works of feminist film criticism have concentrated either on unmasking the patriarchal assumptions - or documenting the contradictory moments - of the mainstream male cinema, or on theorizing on the special features of women's creative production. This book brings together these two approaches and makes them accessible to a broader readership by providing a synthesis, illustrated by the comparative analysis of film from the dominant and counter culture.
