Maaike Bakker's book has 14 super quilt patterns for you to test your strip-piecing skills on. Strip-piecing makes these stunning quilts fast and easy to make. A fabric guide helps you to choose the perfect fabrics to make fabulous graded or rainbow effects and step-by-step instructions show you how to make strip sets and how to cut triangles and oblique squares. Maaike also shows yu how to deviate from her set patterns and to try new ideas with block placement to make your own unique quilt. A nice little added extra at the back is a couple of pages of continuous-line quilting designs which will undoubtedly come in handy for any project.

Bakker's formula for sewing together sets of strips, then re-cutting and sewing again yields an astonishing diversity of designs. Basic techniques relevant to the patterns are first outlined followed by the projects. The secret to the variety of designs is the angles at which the strip sets are cut. Straight cutting results in designs similar to Rail Fence and Log Cabin, 45-degree angle cuts will make designs based on quarter square triangles and a 60-degree angle will make a diamond quilt and an ingenious arrangement called 'Whirligig'. These are just a few of the fourteen patterns provided which cater for all levels of skill. Also included is a selection of continuous line quilting patterns. Each quilt requires six fabrics; you can follow the recommended choices or make your own colour selection so as to customise the designs to match your own decor.
