Molecular Diagnostics in Dermatology and Dermatopathology Summary

Molecular Diagnostics in Dermatology and Dermatopathology by Michael J. Murphy

Molecular Diagnostics in Dermatology and Dermatopathology presents the basics of molecular biology and molecular diagnostic methods most commonly used in the clinical laboratory, with an emphasis on the concepts and testing most relevant to dermatological diseases. Topics include the integration of newer diagnostic and prognostic techniques with 'traditional' histologic approaches, and discussions of regulatory, ethical, legal, economic issues and 'newer' technologies. This important diagnostic tool outlines the clinically relevant uses (i.e.; diagnostic, staging and/or prognostic) applications of these techniques in the field of dermatology. Molecular studies that investigate the pathogenesis of skin diseases will be excluded, unless they also have a direct diagnostic utility. The book will be of interest to practicing pathologists, dermatology and pathology residents, dermatologists, and dermatopathologists.

Molecular Diagnostics in Dermatology and Dermatopathology Reviews

Michael Murphy uses an international group of experts in the field to create a reference book on the subject as it relates to cutaneous disease. This is the first such textbook devoted to molecular diagnostics and the skin. ... This book is suited to a broad audience. Dermatology residents, dermatopathology fellows, pathologists, and researchers with interests in skin disease would certainly benefit from it, as would practicing dermatologists who want to remain current in their understanding of the field. (Nooshin K. Brinster, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Vol. 72 (6), June, 2015)

Not only does this book fill a void in current medical publishing, but Dr Murphy has also succeeded in creating a well-structured and nicely presented work covering the application of molecular diagnostics in both inflammatory and neoplastic conditions. ... the book is easy to read and understand, and it should appeal to a wide range of readers from novices to more seasoned practising dermatologists and dermatopathologists. (T. Brenn, British Journal of Dermatology, Vol. 171 (4), October, 2014)

This manual is one of the few that describes synoptically the so far known molecular basis of cutaneous diseases and intends to extend the knowledge base in such a novel field. ... This book is a useful implement for dermatologists, pathologists, immunologists, as well as residents in these disciplines. It will indeed comprise a uniquely helpful tool and valuable source for all professionals involved in the fascinating practice and evolving research of molecular biology. (Sevasth Afantenou and Maria M. Tsoukas, Clinics in Dermatology, Vol. 32 (5), September-October, 2014)

This text is a very solid review and reference text. ... this text is a thorough reference book for the practicing dermatologist and dermatopathologist when questions arise about molecular testing. ... The dermatopathologist will find instructive information for guiding the proper use of the molecular laboratory use to aid the clinician. This text will make a good addition to a reference library. (Daniel J. Teague, Paul Persad and Omar Sangueza, The American Journal of Dermatopathology, Vol. 36 (8), August, 2014)

A bench-side and bedside guide for dermatologists and dermatopathologists alike in applying state-of-the-art molecular diagnostic information in daily practice. ... The color illustrations, graphs, and tables are laid out well and generally easy to interpret. ... it is currently an invaluable tool, which concisely summarizes the role of molecular diagnostics for the dermatologist and the dermatopathologist in clinic, in the laboratory, and at the microscope. (Katherine Boyd and Sofia Shea, Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, Vol. 22 (3), September, 2013)

Molecular diagnostic testing has become established in so many areas of medicine in the past decade ... . Michael J. Murphy has enlisted a diversified group to experts to provide an introduction and update on many aspects of this rapidly changing field. ... This is not a book to read once and put aside. It contains a great deal of practical information that will be useful on an almost-daily basis when dealing with some of the classic difficult diagnoses in dermatopathology. (Walter Burgdorf, Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 2012)
