Officially approved by the standards and effectiveness unit at the DfEE and supporting the National Literacy Strategy training materials, the activity resource banks provide practical teaching exemplars linked to a selection of specific objectives in the National Literacy Framework. Fully photocopiable ideas for the teacher to exploit in whole class, group and plenary sessions act as models that teachers can adapt. The activities should be useful for all teachers regardless of whether they are incorporating the literacy hour in schools. Module 3 includes activities which cover text, sentence, and word level; show how to use grammar awareness to decipher new words; support investigations into how punctuation works; highlight the function of nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions etc.; and should make children aware of word choice in writing for different audiences and different purposes.
