The case studies of some of the patients the author has worked with are presented in this study. It raises the question of whether schizophrenia should be viewed as a disease that we really want to eradicate, or whether schizophrenia actually endows its sufferers with valuable qualities we should be nurturing - those who work closely with sufferes often report that they seem to have extra perceptions, empathy and sensitivity. This text should be of interest to anyone working with, or contemplating working, with schizophrenics, especially psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses and social workers.
