Who's the Diabetic Fish? Summary

Who's the Diabetic Fish?: All in a Day's Nursing - A Tribute, With Songs by Ray Leonardsson

What gets a nurse up in the morning? Who's the Diabetic Fish? takes the reader on a light-hearted journey through a 'long day' (twelve and a half hours) shift on a hospital emergency ward, where it is possible to see the medical equivalent of four seasons in a single day. Based on true events, and full of the humour that goes with the territory, this affectionate homage to the infantry of the NHS - the 'neat-plain-black-shoes, hair neatly tied back, small-discreet-stud-earrings, nails-kept-short' brigade - peeps behind the curtain to see the dedication that motivates one human being to care for total strangers. And to keep doing it again and again. There are songs to keep the spirits up and drive the story forward, narrative and an Epilogue to make you think, and more gallows humour and old medical gags that you can shake a stick at. Who will forget the Village People-inspired 'M.R.S.A.', the ABBA-themed 'Thank You for Me New Hip', or the Queen-like classic 'Bohospital Rhapsody' - just three of the songs that will have you joining in with the book. Any nurses who read this book may find themselves smiling a knowing smile. Inspired by real-life experiences. But can you tell the truth from the fiction? Bet you can't...

About Ray Leonardsson

After going around the block a few times, raising a family and enjoying a 25-year career in marketing and sales management, Ray Leonardsson changed direction. He first worked in a hospital in his late 40s, starting nursing training at the age of 50. He's still working 20 years later, both in hospitals and general practice. He must love what he does. Or perhaps he's just mad.
