The Theory and Practice of Training Summary

The Theory and Practice of Training by Roger Buckley

Firmly established as a comprehensive introduction on the topic, this revised 5th edition provides a wide-ranging outline of the major instructional and training concepts, and their relationship to training in practice. The authors have expanded on information relating to the training environment, equipment, strategies and target population, as well as including a completely new section on ethics. Written with the newcomer to the training function in mind, it provides numerous real-life case studies to illustrate the theory. This engaging and practical book is as valuable to those who want to put their training experience into a coherent context, as it is to managers who need to understand the role that training can play.

The Theory and Practice of Training Reviews

This is the revised fifth edition of a well established book and one that remains a solid, worthwhile investment. Every chapter is trustworthy and lucid and has reliable advice on the brass tacks such as understanding the work of Kirkpatrick and auditing training. I was particularly impressed by the range and level of references, which would give any novice a good overview of the history of corporative training and all the big names. A must have for the corporative bookshelf. Training and Coaching Today This comprehensive book is an excellent read. It cleverly combines theoretical inputs, models and rationales with their application in practice. This was a very worthwhile read - informed, readable and immediately applicable to a wide variety of training situations. Lesley Matile - www-lesleymatile.com Provides a wide-ranging outline of the main instructional and training concepts, and their relationship to training in practice. Charity Times This book should be compulsory reading every five years for all those in the training profession. Shropshire Star
