Ancient Egypt Summary

Ancient Egypt by Simon Adams

Kingfisher Voyages take the reader (the 'voyager') on a fantastic, interactive journey of discovery. Using acetates and gatefold, in-depth information is presented in a new, exciting and irresistible way. Meet your guide, Kent Weeks, a real-life Egyptologist, who provides his unique eyewitness account of what it is like to explore ancient tombs and examine the bodies of past rulers. Walk through the Valley of the Kings and uncover the secrets of hidden tombs. Retrace the footsteps of Howard Carter as he pin-points the location of King Tutankhamun's mummy and watch as he excavates the tomb. Along the way, lift the acetate to reveal the building process of the Great Pyramid at Giza, and use the divider tabs to move easily from one chapter to the next. The journey ends in the laboratory, where the restoration of the ancient artefacts is examined.

About Simon Adams

Kent Weeks is on the vanguard of Egyptology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Egyptology from Yale University in 1970, and took the post of Professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo in 1988, which he holds to this day. In 1978, Dr Weeks began the Theban Mapping Project. One of the largest finds of the project has been the rediscovery of Valley of the Kings number five (KV5). KV5 revealed the tombs of the sons of Ramses II in which Dr. Weeks and his team have uncovered mummies, jewellery, and other artifacts that have helped advance Egyptology into the twenty first century. Simon Adams was born in Bristol, UK, and studied at London and Bristol universities. He then worked as an editor of children's reference and other nonfiction books before becoming a full-time writer 15 years ago. Since then, he has written and contributed to more than 50 books on subjects as varied as American history, the sinking of the Titanic, the 2 world wars and the history of jazz.
