Twelve-year-old Emmy Dugdale has recently moved from Brighton to Grossop and finds herself alone in a new area with only her arguing parents for company. She soon makes friends with Shirley but when Nicola, her old best friend comes to stay, the new friendship is threatened and loyalties are tested. Previously published as The Fish Fly Low in 1993.
