About Vanessa Betts

Vanessa Betts is a writer and editor from England. She went to India in 1997, as the first stop on a round-the-world ticket, and then found out that nowhere else could quite compare. After time spent living and working in Australia, Egypt and England she has been based in India, chiefly in Kolkata, since March 2006. Vanessa now lives in Israel where she's updating Footprint's new guide to the country. An itinerant writer, Alex has been pin-balling around the planet for the last 17 years, at least three of which were spent in India and one of those riding an Enfield from Tamil Nadu to Ladakh. Working variously as a teacher in Kathmandu, barman in LA magazine editor in Hong Kong, copywriter in Barcelona, TV reporter in Bangkok and Mojito beach-vendor in Ibiza, Alex returned to the UK after judiciously falling off a cliff in Kanya free-climbing and incapacitating himself for a year. Currently between writing novels, he required minimal persuasion to contribute to Footprint Indian Himalaya and has since unpacked his bag temporarily in Somerset. Annie Dare is a writer and journalist based in north London. She read English Literature at Sussex University's School of African and Asian Studies, and the History of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has travelled in India since 1995.
