Venice Biennale Australia 2007 Catalogue Summary

Established in 1895, the Venice Biennale is one of the world's most important critical forums for contemporary visual art. Thousands of the world's leading curators, collectors, gallery directors and critics attend this biennial event, which comprises more than 70 national exhibitions in 28 pavilions throughout the city. For the 2007 Venice Biennale, three Australian artists have been selected to represent Australia: Susan Norrie, Daniel von Sturmer and Callum Morton. The Venice Biennale Australia 2007 catalogue features their work and essays by leading art commentators Juliana Engberg, Stuart Koop and Justin Paton.

About

Susan Norrie will present a video installation at Fondazione Levi that explores pervasive geopolitical issues of a planet in turmoil. Daniel von Sturmer will continue his 'experiments with space', through video installations and architectural interventions especially designed for the Australian Pavilion. Callum Morton is planning a large-scale, architecturally inspired installation. This is the first time Australia will be officially represented within the national pavilion and at important external sites in Venice.
