Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti has written extensively for stage, screen and radio. Her first play Behsharam (Shameless) broke box office records when it was produced in 2001. Her second play Behzti (Dishonour) won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in 2005. Behzti rocked the world of theatre when it was cancelled after protestsin Birmingham, forcing the playwright into hiding. The play's closure sparked an international debate about offence and freedom of expression. In 2014, Khandan(Family) was co-produced by the Birmingham Rep and the Royal Court Theatre. This is her first collected works' volume. About Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti

Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti's first play BEHSHARAM (SHAMELESS) broke box office records at Rep in 2001. Her play BEHZTI (DISHONOUR) was sensationally closed in December 2004, after playing to packed houses at the Birmingham Rep. In 2005, BEHZTI won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. In 2006, the play was translated into French and did sell-out tours in France and Belgium. BEHZTI was translated into Italian in 2012 and was performed in Italy. In 2010 her follow up to Behzti - BEHUD (BEYOND BELIEF) was shortlisted for the John Whiting Award. Her latest play KHANDAN (FAMILY) will open at the Birmingham Rep in May 2014 before transferring to the Royal Court Theatre, London. Gurpreet is a member of the writing team of THE ARCHERS. Other credits include DEAD MEAT, Channel 4; STITCHED UP (commissioned series for BBC1); HONOUR (single film BBC2); nine episodes of EASTENDERS (2001-2004) and HOLLYOAKS (2011).
