They include easy maintenance of ride height irrespective of load, rising rate suspension that remains liberal over most if its travel, plus the ability to change both ride height and spring rate with cockpit control. An explanation of how the basic systems work and their variations is followed by a full description of the hardware, both mechanical and electronic, involved, enabling the reader (provided he has the requisite engineering ability) to carry out such work, even by using salvaged air suspension components which are apparently obtainable quite cheaply and often suitable for re-use.
