Sustainable Alternatives for Aviation Fuels Summary

Sustainable Alternatives for Aviation Fuels by Abu Yousuf (Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh)

Sustainable Alternatives for Aviation Fuels presents a technical and economic guide on the development of sustainable aviation fuels from renewable sources. With a focus on commercial viability and cost reduction, the book explores every aspect of the alternative aviation fuels supply chain, including commercially feasible and environmentally sound feedstock, production routes, the roles of catalysts in processing, conceptual process design, process economics, engine performance, future market trends and case studies. Readers are provided with the tools to make decisions at every stage that are supported by in-depth techno-economic analyses, lifecycle assessments, and considerations for development prospects within the context of sustainability. This book offers an excellent overview for readers involved in bioenergy and aviation. It is an invaluable resource for researchers and industry practitioners seeking to produce commercially viable, alternative aviation fuels.

About Abu Yousuf (Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh)

Dr. Abu Yousuf is a Research Associate in the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Oklahoma, in the United States. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy. His primary research interests include renewable energy, biorefinery, energy storage and waste-to-energy, and he is currently working with protonic ceramic fuel cells at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Yousuf has published over 60 papers in reputed ISI and Scopus-indexed journals, 19 conference papers and 15 book chapters, and is the Editor of 5 books, as well as serving as an editorial board member for several reputed journals. He received the Dean's Award from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, in 2019 and 2021, for his research, and won the 'International invention of the year award' at the British Invention Show, London, UK in 2017, for his work on Hybrid Energy Generation for Highway Lighting Systems. Cristina Gonzalez-Fernandez received her PhD degree in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at the University of Valladolid (2008). She carried out her doctoral thesis in the field of livestock wastes treatment for the removal of organic matter by means of mechanical and photosynthetic oxygenation on the liquid matrix and biogas production on the solid matrix. Previously to that, she worked at the Environmental Engineering Department in the University of Cincinnati (USA) where she also obtained a Master on Environmental Science (2005). She got a postdoc position at the Biotechnology Lab in the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (LBE-INRA, France) to work on the optimization of biogas production using microalgae. Nowadays, her research is focused on the recovery of carbon from wastes via biotechnological means. She is co-author of around 100 scientific publications and reviewer of international journals. Additionally, she has been involved in European and national funded research projects, as well as projects with private companies. She has supervised 5 PhD Thesis, and 20 Master Thesis and Final Year Projects. Today, Cristina Gonzalez is Associate Professor at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology of Valladolid University.
