Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan Summary

Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan by Abul Pitre

Drawing from Louis Farrakhan's decades of teaching on education and leadership this volume brings his ideas into the educational leadership discourse. It explores through a critical framework the purpose of education disclosing how those in powerful positions have shaped educational policy to use schools and universities for their benefit. The book inspires educational leaders to serve the best interest of those under their leadership. In a spiritual tone it discusses the purpose of education, leadership as love, servant leadership, transformative leadership, and futuristic leadership. In the 21st century, leadership for social justice has become a major theme and in this volume Louis Farrakhan's many years of working for equal justice on behalf of historically underserved groups is applied to the practice of educational leadership in K-12 and higher education.

Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan Reviews

Abul Pitre's Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan, examines the muliti-dimensional area of educational leadership in very thorough and penetrating ways. Pitre is both cautious and daring as he painstakingly takes the reader through the nuanced literature. He knows that it is Minister Louis Farrakhan whose ideas about educational leadership he is sharing with the academic world. I, for one, am very happy that he has done so. Minister Farrakhan's body of work as a leader, teacher and scholar is vast. Moreover, the evidence of the effectiveness of his educational leadership is evidenced in the success and longevity of the Nation of Islam's own programs. As I read Abul Pitre's manuscript, I found myself highlighting almost every line. This was particularly so in Chapter 5 where I felt Pitre's writing most vividly captured the spirit of Minister Farrakhan's educational leadership and vision. -- Mwalimu J Shujaa, Professor of Urban Education, Southern University and A&M College (Baton Rouge, LA)
Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan offers a wealth of knowledge for educational leaders that are seeking to transform low performing high poverty schools. It provides educational leaders with a critical theoretical analysis that deconstructs student and teacher dispositions toward schooling. The information in this book will help educational leaders to become transformative leaders who can eradicate the inequities that exist in schools. As a former high school principal who transformed a low performing school I highly recommend this book. -- Esrom Pitre Ph.D., Associate Professor, Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA)
As an educational leader, I can attest that this book is timely in this era of educational reform and accountability. Educational Leadership and Louis Farrakhan is a great resource for educational leaders and policy makers with deep interest in how leadership informs practice. The book contains a wealth of valuable information with a critical framework for leaders from all levels of our society. -- Comfort Okpala, Professor and Chair, Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education, College of Education, North Carolina A&T State University
Pitre's book is a masterfully constructed reading that profoundly impacts the intellectual and spiritual psyche of the reader. This riveting analysis of the state of affairs regarding Afro centric education and leadership provides a bold socially just perspective for aspiring leaders to utilize as a professional resource. His ability to address current injustices in the P-20 educational system through the infusion of Divine Principles is remarkably brilliant. The philosophical application of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan's teachings to educational leadership unequivocally encapsulates the usually silenced Black voice. It is a must read for any school leader who wholeheartedly seeks to empower marginalized populations by recognizing, denouncing, and eradicating disparities within their educational organizations. -- LaSonya Dunham, Educational Leadership Doctoral Student, Prairie View A&M University
This book gives a very powerful outlook on the Black experience in education. Each chapter's reflection on the different types of leadership theories and how they affect historically underserved groups in the educational system is mind blowing and enlightening at the same time. It informs us that change must happen, but it begins with the acknowledgement of these serious issues. Reading Louis Farrakhan's purpose of education will cause its readers to think about the future of education. Pitre uses a concept coined critical black pedagogy to help educational leaders in public school and university settings as a foundational hinge to catapult emancipatory thinking. -- Renita Laury, Educational Leadership Doctoral Student, Prairie View A&M University
