Ahoy!: Sing for the Mary Rose by Alexander L'Estrange
Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose is the second in a series of popular 40-minute works by Alexander L'Estrange for SATB chorus, children's choir and jazz quintet, this one featuring folk fiddle and piano accordion.
An uplifting celebration of King Henry VIII's famous warship, the Mary Rose, it cleverly fuses the music of Tudor times with an array of catchy sea shanties and also includes a sublime setting by L'Estrange of Shakespeare's Full Fathom Five (from The Tempest). Ahoy! takes us on a whirlwind journey across the oceans - and the centuries - in this glorious celebration of English Maritime history. If you loved Zimbe! you'll love its nautical little brother, Ahoy!
