On Illustration Summary

On Illustration by Andrzej Klimowski

Drawing is perhaps the most immediate medium through which an idea can be articulated. Illustration takes drawing into the narrative realm. The illustrations that we see as children stay with us forever; they play a seminal role in the development of our imagination. On Illustration argues that this unassuming artistic discipline can enrich a person's experience of cultural life provided the illustrator's talent is matched by the courage and intelligence of the client. The book is an insight into Andrzej Klimowski's practice, and will help define the role and status of the illustrator in today's creative industries.

About Andrzej Klimowski

Andrzej Klimowski was trained at Saint Martins School of Art before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and working professionally in Warsaw. He has designed posters and book jackets - including works by Jim Jarmusch, P.G. Wodehouse, Harold Pinter and Milan Kundera - and illustrations, TV graphics and animations. He is currently Professor of Illustration at the Royal College of Art in London. His graphic novels are published by Faber and Faber and SelfMadeHero. 'A few words about Kilmowski? Impossible. You can't capture an imagination such as his in a sentence or two. [...] His eye is a microscope, a magnifying glass, a two-way mirror and a crystal ball. He leads the field by a very long furlong, out on his own, making his own weather. He is Klimowksi, unafraid.' - Harold Pinter
