Current Trends and Future Developments on (Bio-) Membranes Summary

Current Trends and Future Developments on (Bio-) Membranes: Membrane Systems for Hydrogen Production by Angelo Basile (R&D Manager, ECO2Energy (Rome) and Hydrogenia (Genoa) and Department of Engineering, University Campus Bio-medical, Rome, Italy)

Membrane Systems for Hydrogen Production offers an overview of advanced technologies in the field of both catalysts and membrane technologies for hydrogen productions and energy saving. Catalysts play an irreplaceable role in chemical engineering for carrying out reaction at industrial level. Membrane processes are today well-recognized technologies in many fields, such as water and wastewater treatment, gas separation and purification, etc. This book relates these two fields and their role in electrochemical hydrogen production by presenting 5 specific chapters where the catalysts are compared to the membrane technology. The purpose of this book is to provide an overview on recently developed catalysts which work in combination with membrane operations for energy savings. This combination provides an example of strategies for engineering development and process intensification of interest for both industrial and developing countries.

About Angelo Basile (R&D Manager, ECO2Energy (Rome) and Hydrogenia (Genoa) and Department of Engineering, University Campus Bio-medical, Rome, Italy)

Angelo Basile, a chemical engineer, is the author of hundreds of papers, books, chapter books, and special issues, with also various Italian, European, and worldwide patents. Basile is an associate editor of various international journals (IJHE, APCEJ, etc.), editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Membrane Science and Technology, and a member of the editorial board of more than 25 international journals. Today Basile is an R&D manager at both ECO2Energy (Rome) and Hydrogenia (Genoa) and is collaborating with the Department of Engineering at the University Campus Bio-medical of Rome (Italy). Dr. Teko W. Napporn, is an electrochemist and a tenure Researcher of French National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS) at Institut de Chimie des Milieux et Materiaux de Poitiers IC2MP (University of Poitiers, France) where he is currently co-leader of SAMCat research team. He graduated in 1997 from University of Poitiers with a PhD in Physical, Theoretical and Analytical Chemistry. After he joined as post-doctoral fellow the Electrocatalysis Group of the Chemistry Institute of Sao Carlos at University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), and later in 1999, the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal (Canada) as research associate. There, he had studied and developed the single chamber SOFC system in collaboration with Hydro-Quebec. Since 2008 he got a tenure position at CNRS for developing novel nanomaterials for electrocatalysis especially for application in energy conversion and storage systems. He participated/managed various projects in the field and co-authored 105 + articles and 11 book chapters. Since 2015, he is involved as Adjunct professor at the Institute of Advanced Science of Yokohama National University (Japan) to design innovative materials for fuel cell and water electrolyzer.
