Contrary Mary by Anita Jeram
The heroine of this story is a little mouse, Mary. Mary is very contrary. She puts her cap on back to front and her shoes on the wrong feet. She asks for roast potatoes and gravy for breakfast. She rides her bike backwards and walks on her hands. So at bedtime her mother decides to give her a taste of her own medicine: she tucks Mary in upside down, opens the curtains, turns on the light, and says, 'Good morning!". Anita Jeram is the illustrator of "All Pigs are Beautiful", "My Hen is Dancing","I Love Guinea-Pigs", "Guess How Much I Love You" (shortlisted for the 1994 Kurt Maschler Award) and her own stories "It Was Jake!", included on the National Curriculum SATs reading list, "Bill's Belly- Button" and "The Most Obedient Dog in the World".
