Books by Thomas Gray
Thomas Gray (1716-1771) wrote what is arguably the most famous poem in English, the Elegy in a Country Churchyard. A famous classicist and scholar, his poetical output was slim but deeply considered. Richard Bentle (1708-82), son of another Cambridge classicist, and a member of Horace Walpole's Committee of Taste, was arguably the finest illustrator of his generation.
