Both professional and civilian followers of recent defence history are not always able to equate their knowledge of equipment and operational deployment to the overall reason why national military forces and defence pacts are the size they are, follow the policies they do and formulate the strategies they create. This study of post-war changes seeks to enable readers to add their existing awareness to a better understanding of world naval force evolution.
