Tests and Assessments in Counseling Summary

Tests and Assessments in Counseling: A Case by Case Exploration by Bill McHenry (St. Edward's University, Texas, USA)

Tests and Assessments in Counseling provides students with current information on assessment tools and techniques through detailed case scenarios and vignettes. Going beyond basic information about a multitude of assessments, the authors focus on the use of instruments in individual cases to allow readers to more fully grasp the integral relationship between tests and assessment data and the counseling process. Chapters guide students through choosing the most effective assessment tool, successfully administering the assessment, and making meaningful and useful results of the data with the client. Test questions are also included at the end of each chapter.

Tests and Assessments in Counseling Reviews

This is not just another textbook describing basic information about a multitude of assessments. The authors in Tests and Assessments in Counseling help readers understand the importance of making results meaningful and useful to our clients. Each chapter describes how to help test subjects make connections across instruments and better understand themselves. This strengths-based approach is a much-needed addition to the assessment literature!
Kate M. Walker, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, LPC, board liaison for the Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision

Tests and Assessment in Counseling accomplishes what few, if any, textbooks on this topic have in the past: appreciating the individual and deeply contextual nature of assessment. Each author successfully captures the process of assessment through a deep dive into a case, and this approach is designed to help counselors in training understand the nuances and uniqueness of testing and assessment with each and every potential client. This text is an important addition to master's-level assessment courses.
Ryan D. Foster, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, CHST, assistant professor and clinic coordinator, Department of Counseling, Tarleton State University at Waco
