Summary

Wait at the railway crossing with the cars and excited children as the freight train passes through town. Try to name some of the 100 cars, from the powerful steam engine to the caboose, and all the boxcars, tank cars, gondolas, cattle cars and hoppers in between.

Crossing Summary

Crossing by Booth Philip

STOP LOOK LISTEN...a train is coming! Wait at the railroad crossing with the cars and excited children as the freight train passes through town. Try to name some of the one hundred cars, from the powerful steam engine to the caboose, and all the boxcars, tank cars, gondolas, cattle cars and hoppers in between. Poet Phillip Booth and first-time picture book artist Bagram Ibattoulline recreate all the magnificence, splendour and noise of a passing freight train, inviting the reader to be swept up in the excitement with them.

About Booth Philip

Phillip Booth is a highly esteemed American poet who has received several arts fellowships and is a Fellow of the Academy of American Poets. The poem "Crossing" appeared in his first collection Letters from a Distant Land. His inspiration came from where he grew up in White River Junction, Vermont, where the White River and the Connecticut River meet. "Many, many trains come down the river valley, travelling from Montreal to Boston, on to New Haven and beyond. The real crossing of this poem, though, is in Brunswick, Maine." Phillip Booth now lives in Maine. Bagram Ibattoulline was born in Russia and graduated from the State Academic Institute of Arts in Moscow. He has worked in many creative fields; fine arts, graphic design, mural and textile design. He currently lives in Jersey City, New Jersey. Crossing is Bagram's first title for Walker Books.
