A history of one of the RAF's foremost fighting squadrons. Formed in 1940, 249 saw action in the Battle of Britain before moving to Italy where it participated in fighter-bomber attacks with Spitfires and Mustangs. Postwar the squadron was based in the Middle East until it was disbanded in 1969.
