Mercedes G-Wagen Summary

Mercedes G-Wagen by Brin Long

At last, and from renowned motoring writer Brian Long, the history of the hugely popular Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is revealed. Produced in SWB and LWB guises, and including station wagons, vans, convertibles, and a large number of specials, over 200,000 examples of the series have been sold since its release in 1979. Now, thanks to the full co-operation of the Stuttgart factory, this book covers each and every variant from a worldwide sales perspective. Packed full of detail and contemporary colour photography, this is the first time such comprehensive information has been presented in English, making it the perfect book for G-Wagen enthusiasts and followers of Mercedes lore.

Mercedes G-Wagen Reviews

Fascinating stuff Classic Car Weekly. Although this square-rigged vehicle might not shout classic, it has many followers. Not far from 200,00 examples were built pre 2016. Following the example of Range Rover and others, the once-utilitarian machine became more luxuriously equipped and powerful as the years rolled on. There was even a 2007 Popemobile built as an open car on a G500 chassis! As usual, author Long doesn't miss much in these 208 pages, covering the G-Wagen's long history, its marketing, model changes, and the competition. It adds up to a surprisingly interesting read. New Zealand Classic Car.
