Inside the Treasure House: Time in Tibet by Catriona Bass
The author was one of a handful of Westerners who were allowed into Tibet for a brief moment during the 1980s. This book covers the 18 months that she worked there, making friends with Chinese and Tibetans from whom she learned the daily reality of a cross-cultural tension. Soon after her departure all foreigners were expelled, many of her friends were imprisoned, and Tibetan freedom was again overcome by martial law and military repression.
