Summary

As Russian troops invaded the Eastern provinces at the end of World War II, all order came to an end. This book tells how Libussa Fritz-Krockow survived this period - how she kept her family alive by stealing. The story is told by her brother, but as though written by Libussa herself.

The Hour of the Women Summary

The Hour of the Women by Christian Graf Von Krockow

Libussa Fritz-Krochow was forced to live by her wits to survive the harrowing final days of the Third Reich. As waves of invading Russian troops poured into the remote Eastern provinces, sealing them off from the West, all vestiges of order were swept away. Christian von Krockow has used his sister's experiences to write this narrative, written as though with Libussa's voice. The book tells how Libussa kept her baby and ageing parents alive by stealing vegetables from the Russian headquarters, hiding in a burned tank to escape a gang of rapists and posing as a fortune-teller to earn a passage to the West.
