Thurman Munson: A Baseball Biography by Christopher Devine
Thurman Munson, number 15 for the New York Yankees, was one of baseball's greatest catchers. Known as his era's supreme defensive catcher, one of the toughest men in the league, and a player who played the game as it should be played, Munson and his talents have been unduly overshadowed by his tragic death at the age of 32 in an airplane crash on August 2, 1979. In his nine season career, Munson captured the Rookie of the Year award, three consecutive Gold Glove awards, Most Valuable Player honors, and a world championship. In this work, the author presents the life, not death, of Thurman Munson, a forgotten great of our nation's pastime, with special attention paid to Munson as a teammate, friend, husband, and father.
