One Glorious Chain Summary

One Glorious Chain by Christopher J. Tokeley

The history of the Church in Wales in the eighteenth century is dominated by three men - Griffith Jones, Daniel Rowland and Thomas Charles. The Established Church considered their preaching a threat to its authority, but with energetic zeal they overcame hostility to carry out the work of God in reviving his Church. The Welsh circulating schools established by Griffith Jones had Christianity at their heart and helped to make the Welsh the most literate in Europe. Ten thousand people would come from all over Wales to Daniel Rowland's village parish to hear him preach. And Thomas Charles was instrumental in forming the Bible Society, making Bibles available for all. We still benefit from the legacy of those three churchmen, whose lives form One Glorious Chain of dynamic events in the history of evangelical Christianity.

About Christopher J. Tokeley

Christopher Tokeley was born in London. He was converted to Christ at the Wandsworth Common & Upper Tooting Crusader Bible Class. He then joined Trinity Road Chapel (F.I.E.C.) where he was baptised by immersion. He first heard about the eighteenth-century revivals from his tutor at college, this led him to join the Evangelical Library for more research. The author studied theology under Rev. Dr. Ernest Kevan, BD, MTh, PhD, Principal of the London Bible College, (now London School of Theology), while continuing his career in international trade finance. In 1975 he was asked to lead the London Banks' Christian Union which he did until his retirement from the City of London in 1989. He edited the history of this old established charity for its centenary before the documents were deposited in the Metropolitan Archives. Since then he has written articles for newspapers and magazines. He is an occasional preacher in the Parish of Cove, Hampshire where he leads a men's group. He is keen to teach the biblical view of creation. After extensive research into Darwinism he published his book Adam Ate With Dinosaurs, the theory of evolution, how it came into prominence, why it continues to influence our thinking and what the Bible teaches about origins. He has contributed material for the website Was Darwin Right? He cares deeply about local matters and has been successful in improving the environment. In his free time he enjoys gardening and listening to classical music and has successfully set questions for a BBC Radio programme. He is married with three grown children and six grandchildren.
