Texas Ranger Matt Logan rides into Walnut Creek to end local trouble. He expects it to be a routine chore of law dealing, but from the moment of his arrival he is caught up in events with no chance of setting up a normal investigation. Logan has to kill a man before he can even stable his horse or get any idea of the local set-up - and the shooting seems to set the tone for the job. Life proves to be cheap in Walnut Creek - his own included - but he goes forward relentlessly, looking for the guilty, shooting those who wanted to kill him, and trying to save the innocent from the callous greed of the men ruling the country with merciless abandon.
