About D Sylvester

David Sylvester was an internationally renowned art critic. He wrote about art for over 50 years, his work including the universally acclaimed Looking at Giacometti and About Modern Art. From 1951 he curated major exhibitions at museums in London, Paris, Venice, New York and Washington. In 1993 he became the first critic ever to receive a Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. He died in June 2001.
