Provence by Daniel Pennac
This is a pictorial appreciation of the incomparable countryside and towns of Provence by photographers Sonja Bullaty and Angelo Lomeo, who have been taking pictures of this captivating region for 20 years. With text by Daniel Pennac, this is a tribute to a land that has long attracted artists from Millet to Van Gogh. When Sonja Bullaty and Angelo Lomeo first visited Provence two decades ago, they were struck by the unique way that individuals and nature had collaborated to form the landscape. To this husband-and-wife team, the whole region was a grand canvas, and they devoted themselves to documenting its textures, forms, and colours. Their photographs are both realistic and abstract, portraying panoramas, vignettes, and details, including bright fields of lavender and sunflowers; haunting stonework buildings; ancient towns; sun-washed pastel doors and windows; and the denizens of villages and farms.
