After Stroke by David M. Hinds
When David Hinds sufferered 2 paralysing strokes, he created a plan using "tools" which were taken from his 19 years as a stress management trainer. Two years after being able to read only "Thomas The Tank Engine" he wrote this guide. It looks at the mental response and how stroke sufferers move through grief as they mourn the loss of faculties, lifestyle and status, then alarm, shock, denial, anger, guilt, acceptance and adjustment. It also considers depression and how to cope with it, exercise and physio, with step-by-step line drawings. It gives simple, clear messages to help in the first 10 days following a stroke (the time of greatest scope for recovery) and advice for family and carers: immediate and easy access to information, and reassurance.
