I am quiet happy to keep this volume on my self, and I will surely find many more seeds in it that grew so large that by now there origins are hard to recognize. David Mumford was Professor of Applied Mathematics at Brown University. In 1974 he was awarded the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Vancouver. In 2010 he was awarded the National Medal of Science.
