Poetry Street Summary

Poetry Street: Bk. 1 by David Orme

The volumes in this series comprise a collection of modern poetry aimed especially at teenagers. The series is based on the concept of reading and response rather than comprehension and criticism, which is central to the National Curriculum proposals, and offers a variety of tasks appropriate for the National Curriculum attainment targets and programmes of study at levels five and six. Each book features the involvement with a living poet, bringing poetry into the present and providing material relevant to a multicultural society. Help and assistance for teachers is also provided, with a special emphasis on group discussions and writing. The books are arranged in three sections, the first section looks a poems arranged in themes. The second section introduces poetry from the writer's point of view and the third looks at the structure and form of a group of poems, enabling the reader to start to understand the process of writing poetry.
