Combining natural materials, found objects and simple techniques, this book shows you, step-by-step, how to use mosaics to make everything from flooring to garden accessories and planters for city gardens. Gardens have become more than just a place for plants to grow. They have evolved into an extra living space and as such we furnish them with tables, chairs, benches and awnings. Why not also furnish them with ornaments? Particularly those highlighting the nature that surround us. Pebble mosaics are an ideal choice with their diversity and organic nature suiting every situation outdoors and in. Dating back to Roman times, pebble mosaics still exist today from all those aeons ago - in Alhambra, Spain is a wonderful example of a pebble walkway and intricate Roman tesserae work can still be seen in Italy today, emphasising their durability. This collaboration between Deborah Schneebeli-Morell, a trained artist, and professional designer Gloria Nicol has produced a book to inspire all those with an artistic flair to venture into this increasingly popular new medium. Projects range from those that can be created in a day to more adventurous works that will take several weeks - together with perserverance - to complete. All 25 projects will spark the imagination beyond that given and it could be the start of a new interest. Clearly explained and well-illustrated, the instructions are easy to follow, even for those with no experience. Many projects use readily available materials such as garden edging and paving slabs as the basis of the design making sourcing easy. A little more emphasis regarding buying pebbles rather than taking them from the countryside could have been employed but that is a minor complaint of what is an inspiring book on this new artistic fashion.
