Donna J. Bowles, EdD, RN, CNE, is associate professor of Nursing (tenured) at Indiana University Southeast, New Albany, Indiana, and an instructor/item writer of NCLEX-RN Review Courses for Kaplan Education, Inc. Dr. Bowles team-teaches the didactic courses in Alterations in Health I & II, with the corresponding Practicum , along with the Comprehensive Health Assessment and Science and Technology Practicums. Dr. Bowles has written three chapters for the Cengage Learning Medical-Surgical Nursing, 2nd edition textbook edited by Daniels and Nicoll (2010) and The Adult Client chapter in Daniels's, Nursing Fundamentals: Caring and Decision-Making, 2nd edition (Cengage, 2008). She was coeditor with M. Hogan for Nursing Fundamentals: Review and Rationales (P-H, 2002). She has published several peer-reviewed articles, including Active Learning Strategies...not for the birds! (International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship, 2006), and The Wizard of Oz: A metaphor for teaching excellence (The Teaching Professor, 2005), among others. Dr. Bowles is an active peer reviewer for LWW, P-H, the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship, Nursing Spectrum and the Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning . She is the recipient of many teaching awards and fellowships and is a member of the following professional societies: STT, Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses, Delta Epsilon Honor Society, Church Health Ministries of Kentuckiana, NLN, and National Gerontology Nurses Association.
