Sustainable Medicine Summary

Sustainable Medicine: Whistle-Blowing on 21st-Century Medical Practice by Dr. Sarah Myhill

"Dr. Sarah Myhills honest voice is a beacon of light and hope . . . [she] empowers the patient by offering a thoughtful road map . . . that ultimately leads to health and vitality."Dr. Nasha Winters, coauthor ofThe Metabolic Approach to Cancer

Sustainable Medicine is based on the premise that twenty-first century Western medicinedriven by vested interestsis failing to address the root causes of disease. Symptom-suppressing medication and polypharmacy have resulted in an escalation of disease and a system of so-called health care, which more closely resembles disease care.

In this essential book, Dr. Sarah Myhill aims to empower people to heal themselves by addressing the underlying causes of their illness. She presents a logical progression from identifying symptoms, to understanding the underlying mechanisms, to relevant interventions and tests and tools with which to tackle the root causes. As Myhill writes, Its all about asking the question why?

Sustainable Medicine covers a wide range of symptoms including:

  • Inflammation (infection, allergy, autoimmunity)
  • Fatigue
  • Pain
  • Toxic symptoms
  • Deficiency symptoms
  • Hormonal symptoms

Dr. Myhill also includes a toolbox of treatments for specific illnesses and ailments, as well as a general approach to avoiding and treating all disease. Finally, she offers a series of case histories to show how people have successfully taken control of their health and healed even in the face of the most discouraging symptomsall without the harmful interventions of 21st century Western medicine.

"[Dr. Myhill] offers readers . . . . the tools to understand their symptoms and the mechanisms at play that give rise to them, so that health care consumers can instead be empowered agents of their own well-being."Tom Cowan, author of Human Heart, Cosmic Heart

Sustainable Medicine Reviews

This is Sarahs Principia; the science, the medicine and the under-standing are all hers. My contributions as editor were limited to the typographical, the organisational, and some of the quotations. It was a pleasure to be involved in this project both to witness how a truly unique, caring and great mind comes to an understanding of the labyrinth of modern disease processes and then also to be party to the thought patterns that the said mind undertakes in order to develop sustainable treatments for those diseases. It is not for the editor to advise the reader, but I shall break with protocol; perhaps it is personal to me, but I gained most from this book by reading it in one sitting and would suggest that, if possible, others do likewise. Thereafter one can dip in at will. Your Good Health!Craig Robinson, MA (Oxon) ACA

Dr. Myhill addresses the principle causes for the current epidemic of chronic diseases in the Western World and outlines in her unique, no-nonsense way how to explain, prevent, diagnose and successfully treat those conditions for which conventional medicine currently only has an ever increasing amount of potentially dangerous medicines to offer.

This book is an invitation for patients and practitioners alike to move away from a culture of ignorance, restrictive guidelines and blame and to make informed decisions and take responsibility for their own health again.Dr. Franziska Meuschel, MD, PhD, ND, LFhom

This book grabbed my attention from the first page and kept me fascinated right to the very end. Dr. Myhill sees many of the current diagnostic and treatment practices in modern medicine to be unsustainable because they do not actually deal with the real underlying causes of ill health. This argument is explained so clearly and carefully that it is impossible to disagree with it. God! I hope the medical profession sit up and listen.

Dr. Myhill at one point describes this book as . . . the end result of 30 years of trial and error. This description doesnt come close to the achievement that it represents. She has managed to pull off the near impossible and has packaged up an overall blueprint for good health. This blueprint can help patients recover from a wide range of conditions and forms a platform for future good health. Its a tour de force!

If you are sick of being sick then this book could transform your life. However, it can also be used by people who are fit and well in order to remain so to a ripe old age.Paul Robinson, author of Recovering with T3

Dr. Sarah Myhill provides us with not only a critique of current medical practice but also a detailed viable alternative, which she aptly refers to as sustainable medicinesustainable because the focus is on the underlying causes of disease rather than merely the management of symptoms. The approach is highly integrative. Dr. Myhill utilizes nutritional medicine, lifestyle interventions, appropriate clinical tests, and, yes, were necessary, conventional medical treatments. Sustainable Medicine is a manual for good health in the twenty-first century. It makes a great deal of sense, starting from the basis of what constitutes good health and working up to many more detailed areas. Dr. Myhill also dispels a number of medical myths along the waywhat we are told about cholesterol, low-fat diets, problems with digestionand describes the real causes of various conditions prevalent today. The detailed advice about nutritional supplementation with appropriate dosages throughout the book is also particularly beneficial.

Despite the immense contribution Dr. Myhill has given to the advancement of medical practice, she remains incredibly humble, clearly valuing the insights provided by patients and continuing to learn and make appropriate modifications to various protocols.Justin Smith, author of Statin Nation; producer of the documentary films Statin Nation and Statin Nation II

Rather than helping people achieve health by getting to the root cause of disease, profit-driven conventional medicine perpetuates disease by treating symptoms with an endless panoply of pharmaceutical medications. A trip to the doctor will often make you sicker, not healthier. While many people understand this on some level, it can be hard to know where to go from there. Thats why Dr. Sarah MyhillsSustainable Medicineis so valuable. She not only critiques twenty-firstcentury medical practice for its misplaced priorities, but she offers readers a far more valuable alternative: the tools to understand their symptoms and the mechanisms at play that give rise to them, so that health care consumers can instead be empowered agents of their own well-being.Tom Cowan, MD, author of Human Heart, Cosmic Heart

Dr. Sarah Myhills honest voice is a beacon of light and hope in a world where conventional medicine is the third leading cause of death in the United States, surpassed only by cancer and cardiovascular disease. She simplifies disease as a lack of raw materials, blocked/damaged powerhouses, and membrane issues (shape and flexibility as well as permeability). Dr. Myhill empowers the patient by offering a thoughtful road map, inspired by her brilliant analogies, to restore proper mitochondrial function that ultimately leads to health and vitality.Dr. Nasha Winters, coauthor of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer
