Who's Who of Welsh International Rugby Players Summary

Who's Who of Welsh International Rugby Players by Duncan Pierce

From Arthur Gould, the first super-star of Welsh rugby, to Sam Warburton, 50 times captain, Wales has been blessed with players of great flair and quality. This book provides details of the playing careers of all 1,148 men who have represented Wales and gives intriguing glimpses of their lives off the pitch. Men from many backgrounds, labourers to landed gentry, with heights ranging from five to nearly seven foot and weights from nine to over twenty stone, have pulled on the Welsh jersey. This Who's Who of Welsh International Rugby Players tells of them all - from Gethin Jenkins who has taken the field 129 times to the 225 men who have only played once: one of them, Lee Jarvis, for just two minutes, though that was sufficient time for him to convert a try. There are details of all Wales' matches to June 2018 as well as appendices full of fascinating further information.

Who's Who of Welsh International Rugby Players Reviews

'This is an essential work of reference for anyone with the least interest in Welsh rugby. It is a staggeringly detailed but always human encyclopaedia, meticulously researched and brilliantly excavated. Who would have thought a mere directory could be so enthralling? If you think it might be dull, think again. Take a look and be engrossed, as I was and still am.' - Professor Gareth Williams, Welsh rugby historian

About Duncan Pierce

Duncan Pierce grew up near Newport in Monmouthshire. After graduating from Birmingham University with a degree in Industrial Economics, he qualified as a chartered accountant. He emigrated to Wiltshire in 1973 where in retirement he struggles to maintain a largish garden. His lifelong interest in genealogy, so useful in this book, has now become an obsession. John M Jenkins is a retired librarian who lives in West Wales. He still frequents his local library and record office in search of fresh information, much of it in this book. Timothy Auty grew up in Leeds, the son of England rugby international Dicky Auty and the jazz singer Doreen Henry. Now retired from Civil Registration, he spends his time researching the game of rugby and its players.
