This title looks at the effect of drink and drugs on our physical and mental health. It starts by answering the question what is a drug? and then goes on to look at alcohol, smoking, illegal drugs and medicinal drugs in depth. It finishes by balancing the risks drink and drugs present to your health against the beneficial qualitites that some drugs have. This book should be useful to support the Personal, Social and Health Education framework for 11-14 year olds where young people should be taught about alcohol and tobacco, illegal substances and the risks of misusing prescribed drugs. It can also be used as a cross-curricular resource to support Key Stage 3 Science National Curriculum where young people should be taught that the abuse of alcohol, solvents and other drugs affects health.
